However, with this great ministry comes great complexity for my health. Each week I strive to have two physical therapy appointments. I’ve been surrounded with great physicians who want to see me thrive. They work hard to keep me upright not only for my responsibilities as a lead pastor, but for my wife and kids.
Every Sunday, my preaching demands so much from me...more than you know. In fact, a huge portion of my physical therapy that I pay for each week is spent helping me recover and stay available to carry out my Sunday preaching responsibilities; as well as the rigorous preparation to not only write these sermons, but to lead a host of other leadership responsibilities. While I work extremely hard on my recovery for myself and my family, I also know that my life is but a blink of an eye, and that I want to wring it out as much as possible for the kingdom.
And so despite the pain, it’s become my joy to demonstrate what it means to be willing to lay my life (or body) down for the kingdom through faithfully preaching the Word of God to our church. When I need encouragement, I point to this anthem rooted squarely in 1 John 3:16. It reads:
“By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers (1 John 3:16).”
This leads to my present situation at hand:
